The U.S. space agency in July 2013 announced the discovery of Neptune’s 14th moon. The Hubble Space Telescope captured the moon as a white dot in photos of the planet on the periphery of our solar system.

The new moon, Neptune’s tiniest at just 19.3 km across, and is designated as S/2004 N 1.

The Neptune 14th moon was actually discovered by the SETI Institute’s Mark Showalter while studying the segments of rings around Neptune when he spotted the white dot popping out, 105250 km from Neptune. He tracked its movement in more than 150 pictures taken from 2004 to 2009.

Despite social media websites being a boon for employers scoping out job applicants, there is bad news for certain groups of young people.

Researchers have found that among young adults men, Hispanics and those with lower internet skills are the least likely to keep employment-related audiences in mind when it comes to their online profiles.

Women, whites and those with higher internet skills are more likely to actively manage their social media privacy settings as they seek a job or maintain employment.

This is the first study to analyze how different demographics of young adults approach online reputation management strategies during a job search.

Smartphones have been amongst the biggest technological revolutions of the past decade, bringing emails, calls, internet and entertainment into your pockets. However, a recent study claims that smartphones are also responsible for lowered fitness level among users.

Faculty members of Education, Health and Human Services at Kent State University, Dr Jacob Barkley and Dr Andrew Lepp conducted a study to see how smartphone usage affects the exercise levels in college students. Unlike television, smartphones are small and portable, making it possible to use them while doing little physical activity.

Self Destructing Mobile Phones

|
Imagine this: There's no need to throw out your old cellphone, because it will self-destruct.

That's the idea behind a project at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where researchers are investigating how to build electronics that vanish in water.

John Rogers is a professor of Materials Science and Engineering at the university. Rogers says the goal of the "born to die" program is to design transient technology that can dissolve at the end of its useful life, thus saving space in landfills and reducing waste.

The research team isn't there yet. But it has designed a chip built on a thin film of silk that dissolves when hit with water.

Best Artificial Intelligence Computer

One of the world's best artificial intelligence computers is only as smart as a four year old human child, a new study suggests.

Researchers at the University of Illinois at Chicago IQ-tested one of the best available artificial intelligence systems to see how intelligent it really is.
It turned out that the computer is about as smart as the average four-year-old, researchers said.

The UIC team put ConceptNet 4, an artificial intelligence system developed at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), through the verbal portions of the Weschsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence Test, a standard IQ assessment for young children.

They found ConceptNet 4 has the average IQ of a young child. But unlike most children, the machine's scores were very uneven across different portions of the test.

virtual brain that daydreams like humans

Scientists have developed a virtual model of the brain that daydreams like humans do, a finding that can help better diagnose and treat brain injuries.Researchers created the computer model based on the dynamics of brain cells and the many connections those cells make with their neighbours and with cells in other brain regions. They hope the model will help them understand why certain portions of the brain work together when a person daydreams or is mentally idle. This, in turn, may help doctors better diagnose and treat brain injuries.

Error Finding New Technology Pen-Powered By Linux

German inventors have developed a new pen that gently vibrates every time it senses a spelling mistake or sloppy handwriting.

Lernstift is a regular pen with real ink but inside it, is a special motion sensor and a small battery-powered Linux computer with a Wi-Fi chip.

These parts allow the pen to recognize specific movements, letter shapes and know a wide assortment of words. If it senses bad letter formation or messy handwriting, it will vibrate, 'ABC News' reported.

Users can choose between two functions: Calligraphy Mode — pointing out flaws of form and legibility or Orthography Mode — recognizing words and comparing the word to a language database. If the word isn't recognized, the pen will vibrate, according to Daniel Kaesmacher, the 33-year-old co-founder of LernstiftMunich. The other co-founder , 36-year-old Falk Wolsky had the idea for the pen last year while his 10-year-old son was doing his homework. ts with the world.
